About Monte Mayor Golf Club

Designed by Malaga native Pepe Gancedo, whose philosophy is ‘why move the earth when a golf hole should follow the natural contours?’ This golf course is probably unlike any you have ever played before. Nestles in a natural amphitheatre created bu the Serrania de Ronda Mountains, the greens have not been shaped by bulldozers, but by the wild Andalusian nature. With its exciting fairway that meander through dramatic gullies, ravines and streams, Monte Mayor offers a superb challenge to even the most experienced golfers.

It is no accident to see that the Monte Mayor Course emblem is a bull. You have to fight it, stave off its charges and side step its attacks. The course calls for a cool head. Playing Monte Major is an experience where each hole is an infinite challenge on its own. Blind tee shots, steep ravines and terraced fairways, you will find it all here. Before you start your round make sure you are aware of the local rules, it is not every day you get a free drop if you miss a fairway!

With the course nestling in the mountains of Benahavis even getting there is an adventure but your patience will be rewarded. Green fees include a buggy and it is advised to take advantage of this even if you are the fittest of individuals.

All in all, playing the Monte Major course is an experience you will never forget and well worth a trip, make sure you bring a camera to capture the breathtaking scenery. Although welcoming to all standards of players, this is probably one left to the regular golfers with a handicap of at least 24, the wayward players will be punished!

Directions: On the N340 take the turn off at km 169 signposted ‘Benahavis’ between San Pedro de Alcantara and Estepona. Follow the road heading inland for about 3km and you will come across a turnoff to the left marked Marbella Club Golf Resort. Take this turning and follow the road inland – the course is a further 5km from the turning past the Marbella Club Golf Resort.
